ABOUT THE SHOW

We like to talk about movies that talk about school, and we bet you do too. This podcast is for anyone who works at a school, goes to school, or ever went to school!  Movies about school have shaped our national narrative about what school is like, about the relationships between teachers and students, students and students, and the role of school as both friend and foe.

Carla Silver is the executive director head L+Doer of Leadership + Design.  She spends a lot of time on planes, traveling to work with schools all over the country, which gives her plenty of  time to watch movies about schools.  When she is not engrossed in school-related films, she is working hard with the superheroes of L+D (Ryan Burke and Tara Jahn) to question and disrupt many of the archaic practices of school – often found in the films.  She lives in Los Gatos, CA with her husband, three children, and two King Charles Cavaliers. 

Bill Selak is the Director of Technology at Hillbrook School, Adjunct Faculty at Concordia University Irvine, and Chair of CUE’s Communications Committee. He believes that mobile devices compel you to individualize, and is curious how teaching and learning shapes a classroom. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator, ISTE Certified Educator, Google Certified Innovator, and ISTE Kay L. Bitter Vision Award recipient. Bill is currently obsessed with sharing his professional learning on Instagram Stories.
